1- Briefly describe what skills or traits you have that would help you become an effective leader or manager .
2- What are some of the ways in which you can overcome the negative effects of being promoted to a management position within your own division? Negative effects include such things as being tested by your coworkers, being compared to your predecessor, your employees not willing to work with you because they do not know or do not like the change in management etc .
3- You have an employee that is not following directions and is always late in completing their tasks. You have been asked to discuss these issues with this employee. List the six steps you can utilize in order to handle the discussion with this employee as discussed in Chapter 10, AND elaborated on other things you can do to mitigate the situation as discussed in Chapter 14 & 15
4- Explain what is meant by being an “active listener” AND what you can do to become a better active listener
5- Briefly explain some of the ways in which you can build trust and confidence in your management and leadership when you are first starting out as a new manager/leader
6- Briefly describe how you would go about implementing the six factors that are essential to team building dynamics as described in Chapter 9 and elaborated in Chapter 12. Describe and give an example for each one
7- The First-Time Manager book states that “management skills are very different from the skills one needs to succeed as an individual contributor.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Please explain giving examples.
8- Chapter 8 describes a number of different management styles. Utilizing those styles, briefly describe which one of those are your strengths and which ones you need to improve on? Given an example or discuss these in detail and describe how you think you can improve on them
