Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

Purpose: To analyze a contemporary health system within the context of the policy making process
Focus: Determine a specific area of public policy issue arising from governments (federal, state, local): institutional; or organizational system, or a system you are familiar with that could benefit from a policy change. Research the policy/ program using a variety of methods.
Components: Prepare a comprehensive paper that applies the components of the policymaking process/ using a stage-sequential model as noted in Mason, Leavitt, & Chaffee, 6th ed. text, pp. 49-64.
Context: Describe policy problem/issue; The Background, encompassing social, ethical, political, and legal factors; Identify stakeholders in the system to be assessed.
Policy options: Identify policy goals/ objectives/ options
Evaluation of policy options: Discuss pros/cons of each option, in terms of cost, quality of care, protection of patient and provider autonomy, and political feasibility; compare options; summarize and recommend most effective option
