Hegel and the question of History

Explain how Hegel’s thought was an reponse (re-contextualization & revision) to Kant’s thought, placing the question of morality within a socio-historical framework. Be able to explain how Hegel felt the “as if” universal morality of Kant wasn’t precise enough (and doors it inadvertently left open), and how Hegel sought to explain the dialectical historical process by which we develop the maxims we live by, focusing on an explanation of the master/slave dialectic as a an example of this process, and a response to the Kantian paradox. What does Hegel mean when he declares “History is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom,” and further declares that history will end with the arrival of the “absolute Idea” (why would Hegel have momentarily thought Napoleon was the advent of this Idea, and what might have made him change his mind?). Briefly apply the concept of negative determination in the master/slave dialectic to your own life. It would be helpful to cite and explain Pinkard on Hegel.
