Q: Impressionism as a separate stylistic period was relatively short-lived, approximately 25 years, when compared to the other periods. The Baroque was about 150
years, the Classical about 70 years, the Romantic about 80 years, and the Contemporary period about 100 years in length. Another difference is that there were only two
major composers representing this period, Debussy and Ravel. Why do you think that the Impressionistic period was so different from other periods? Should it be labeled
as its own separate period or subsumed under a broader category? Explain your answers.
