First find an article from a reputable news source on civil rights/civil liberties. The first part of the paper will summarize the article and clearly state the theme. Find an article over civil rights and civil liberties and summarize it and state the theme.such as The New York Times, The Washington Post or a similar source do not use blogs, opinion pieces, YouTube videos, etc. Be sure to avoid opinion pieces and editorials, even if they appear in what is otherwise an acceptable news outlet. You must also put a complete citation at the top of the article review (formatted in Chicago, MLA, or APA style) and paste the link for the article as well. The paper must include a brief summary of the article. This should constitute about one paragraph or no more than one third of the paper. Most significantly, the COURSE THEME should be clearly stated and discussed. That is, you should choose an article related to the course themes/topics discussed from that section of the course and clearly explain the relevancy to the course topic in the paper. Although the first paragraph or so of the paper will be a summary of the article, the paper must go beyond simply summarizing the articles content. The paper must include a detailed discussion of the course theme, appropriately using terminology from the course. The best papers will draw upon several sections of the course and integrate material from across the course. This section of the paper is worth the bulk of the paper grade (50%).
(c) The paper must also address the validity of the article (whether there is a perceivable liberal or conservative bias, and/or whether the author seems to be promoting one side) (10%)
