You are to choose 1 VHS/DVD film from the following DVDs/videos depicting older adults: Grumpy Old Men, Grumpy Old Men 2, Cocoon, On Golden Pond, The Notebook, About Schmidt, As Good as it Gets, and Something’s Gotta Give. You can rent these at the local video place near you. Pick one character in the later years, identify both the actor/actress’ name and character name. Then provide a ½ page summary of the film. Next address the questions listed below. You are to prepare a double-spaced 5-6 page paper including the summary of the movie, and the answers to the questions below. This assignment is due Saturday, February 27, 2016 by midnight and worth 50 points. Remember to integrate your text and cite the integrated information (authors, page number(s) to receive full credit on write-up.
1. What biological/physical changes as a result of aging do you see in the main character? Discuss how your textbook corroborates/does not corroborate these changes due to age. (See chapters 3 & 4 of text). Discuss at least 4 points for each.
2. Describe the types of changes in memory/cognition you observed in the character. Does this seem to be a realistic portrayal of older adults? Use your text to cite at least 3 examples of why this is or is not realistic. (See chapters 4 & 5 of text).
3. Describe the social relationships the character had in the movie. In your opinion, does this fit what you know about social relationships in the later years? Please provide your rationale and use several textbook cites to substantiate your opinion (See chapters 6 & 12 of text).
4. Finally, if you could rewrite 5 aspects of this movie because they seem to be contrary to what we know about older adults (Hollywood), discuss what each would be. Describe in enough detail how the film portrayed this aspect, then how you would change it for each.
