Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

You are a policy advisor for Queensland Police Service charged with advising on crime prevention. There is growing public concern over media reports detailing an emerging crime problem in the State. You have been tasked with determining whether the overseas intervention would be an appropriate to adopt in Queensland: (Noise in Neighborhoods: Achieving Community Together (ACT) – File attached.

For the purposes of this exercise, assume there is a fairly close fit with the described problem. Provide a critique of the submission focussing on the validity of the problem diagnosis (did they identify the right cause?) and the likelihood the intervention was actually responsible for the observed reduction in crime (did something else cause the reduction)? Your essay should be organised under the following section headings:

1) Description of the initiative: In this section briefly describe the project

2) Theoretical perspective: In this section, identify and define what theories (if any) you think the team used in diagnosing the crime problem.

3) Analytic procedure: In this section, outline what explanations for the problem were considered and how they were tested. Do you think any factors not related to the project (i.e. competing explanations) may have, in fact, been responsible for the observed reduction in crime? How might these have been tested for?

4) Other factors for consideration: In this section, you need to recommend, on the evidence presented in the previous sections whether this initiative should be adopted. Feel free to identify factors that might enhance or retard the efficacy of the intervention.
