• Use the articles below as the basis for your review. Your review should build an argument that leads logically to your hypotheses. Your review should also address the following points:
o What is the principle of rational self-interest or rational egoism?
o What is social value orientation?
o Psychologists have argued that rational self-interest does not accurately describe motives in human social interactions. Describe/define the three orientations discussed in Van Lange et al.’s 1997 journal article.
o What does the term “dispositional” mean in the context of Van Lange and colleagues’ conceptualisation of social value orientation?
• Your Induction should finish with your four clear hypotheses.
• You must develop FOUR hypotheses covering the following:
1. For the road proposal, you must hypothesise:
a. which of the three orientations you would you expect to be the most supportive of the road proposal, and
b. which of the three orientations you would expect to be the least supportive of the road proposal.
2. For the train proposal, you must hypothesise:
a. which of the three orientations you would expect to be the most supportive of the train proposal, and
b. which of the three orientations you would expect to be the least supportive the train proposal.
3. Describe the study design and the process by which the data were collected (Methods section).
4. Plot graphs of your data and describe what they show (Results section).
5. Write a Discussion, where you state whether the data are consistent with your hypotheses, as well as discuss the implications of your findings, and critique the study.
6. Data have been provided (below Survey Results) so you can examine your research hypotheses.
7. Abstract summarising the whole report using a very concise, and highly prescriptive structure.
8. Citations and Reference: Make sure you correctly cite all of the papers you discuss in the report.
