Produce a 1500 word proposal for a research project on a topic of your choice. In this proposal you must:

• Develop a compelling rationale for the research you wish to conduct
• Propose a viable hypothesis (or hypotheses) you wish to investigate
• Propose a suitably designed study, and analysis plan, given the hypothesis you’ve earlier specified

In addition to this, the report should consider the relative advantages and disadvantages of the design and methodology you choose and also conclude with a brief discussion, in which you comment on the interpretation of potential findings and the implications of these findings in the broader context.

For a specific research topic of your choice…*

• Give an introduction to the topic that discusses recent research in this area of psychology and provides a compelling justification for the study you propose to conduct. Conclude this introduction by defining the specific hypotheses your proposal seeks to investigate. Note: You can be critical of the previous studies if they have flaws but be sure to address these in your design

• Specify the population you’re interested in and give an estimate the sample size the study will require. For example, can you estimate effect size you might anticipate based on previous studies and use this to calculate the sample size required in your study? If you don’t do this how else might you justify your chosen sample size?

• Having outlined the design and methodology your study will use, then consider the advantages and disadvantages of your chosen design and method (control issues, internal and external validity and psychometric issues such as reliability and validity) and provide a rationale for the decisions you’ve taken. Why is your proposal the most effective and appropriate approach to take and how will you mitigate any threats to your study’s validity that remain?
