SWK 717: Evidence Based Practice with Severe Mental Illness
Midterm assignment

Please develop a short paper (5-8pps, APA Style, with references) in which you address the following questions. Please use readings from the course outline AND from your own independent research of the scholarly databases. Each question counts for 20 points.

1. Use one of the cases from the course, OR a client you have worked with professionally who has a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or severe bipolar disorder. Give a summary, in your own words, of the client’s presenting problems.

2. Pick one of the EBPS studied in the course: ACT, motivational interviewing, wellness self-management and recovery, or medication management. Describe the EBP, in your own words, as you understand it.

3. Discuss how well the EBP meets the client’s needs. Be specific and assess what the needs are and how the intervention addresses those needs.

4. Discuss anticipated barriers to implementing the EBPs with the client and how they might be addressed.

5. Discuss how the EBP is or is not compatible with social work values.

6. Extra credit: Which EBP appeals to you the most as a social work practitioner and why? 5 points extra.
