a summary should supply all necessary detail from the text and 3 supporting references on the population using no quotes, tables, or figures; 3 page text only using your own writing in proper
paragraph form with in-text citations
summarized material should include, in the following order: (1) defining the nature of the population and any special restrictions, (2) other details from the text (can use information from both
text chapters if provided for your topic) and article regarding the effects of exercise on this population, (3) recommendations for exercise (citing recommending association), and (4) a closing
bottomline or conclusion, briefly what is the take away message for the fitness professional when working with your special population (short paragraph directed to the practitioner)?
4 references: (1) the text, (2) 1-2 other primary research articles, and (3) 1-2 secondary comprehensive sources such as a position statement/stand, literature review or systematic review , or meta
analysis are required in a list at the end of the text; websites or any other information pages as well as articles from popular magazines will not be considered as a valid, required source.

Summary Rubric (35 possible points)

5 pts – grammar, punctuation, and required font/format in proper paragraph form
14 pts – content depth and accuracy
5 pts – recommendations for exercise/application clearly outlined in the summary
3 pts – clear statement of the “bottomline” for practitioners (at the end of the summary)
8 pts – 4 references listed at the end of the summary using complete bibliography (author(s), title, journal, date, pages (if text, chapter name, publisher)
