Fatty Acids, amino acids, and cells
Paper details:
The following 6 questions need to be answered. Nothing too long just enough toÕÉ≠†Њ† answer each question
fully and precisely.
1. Explain how the molecular structure of fatty acids can determine the melting point of fat molecules.
2. Describe the role of cholesterol in stabilizing membrane structure.
3. Explain four types of forces that can occur between the Rgroups of amino acids that effect tertiary structure.
4. Trace the path that a hydrolytic enzyme molecule takes through the endomembrane system of the cell to
secretion at the cell surface.
5. The structure of the water molecule makes it form hydrogen bonds, causes it to be cohesive, and allows it to act
as a solvent for polar and ionic compounds. Explain each.
6. Eukaryotic cells need more complex internal structure than prokaryotes because of their low surface area to
volume ratio. Explain.
