Fictional Character Analysis
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to create a fictional character for a movie who holds a managerial position. The character’s personality, management traits, and how they were developed will be discussed. Additionally, three management traits that the leader possesses will be identified and explained in terms of why they are necessary for a successful manager. The paper will also explore how the reader can develop each skill or trait in their own life through training, education, and experience. Possible disadvantages to having these traits will also be discussed, as well as how the traits have been effectively utilized in the author’s own experiences. Finally, the paper will provide resume bullets for each trait, as if the character were writing their own resume. The author will also reflect on how they relate to the character and whether or not they could be managed by them.
Character Analysis
The fictional character that will be analyzed in this paper is named Samantha Smith. Samantha is a 35-year-old woman who has worked her way up the corporate ladder to become the CEO of a large technology company. Her personality can be described as ambitious, determined, and confident. She is not afraid to take risks and is always looking for ways to improve her company’s performance. However, her drive for success can sometimes cause her to be seen as ruthless or cold by her colleagues and employees.
Samantha developed her management traits through a combination of education, experience, and mentorship. She earned a degree in business management from a prestigious university and then began her career as an entry-level employee at a technology company. She quickly worked her way up the ranks by showing her dedication and ability to think strategically. Along the way, she had the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced managers who helped shape her management style.
The three management traits that Samantha possesses that are necessary for a successful manager are strategic thinking, decision-making, and effective communication. Strategic thinking allows her to see the big picture and make decisions that will benefit her company in the long run. Decision-making skills allow her to make difficult choices quickly and efficiently. Effective communication is crucial in order for her to effectively lead and manage her team.
To develop these skills and traits in one’s own life, one can start by setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. For example, a goal to improve strategic thinking could be to read one business strategy book per month and to implement one new strategy in one’s own work or personal life. A goal for improving decision-making could be to practice decision-making exercises and to seek out opportunities to make decisions in one’s current role. Improving communication could involve taking a public speaking course and actively seeking out opportunities to present or lead meetings.
One possible disadvantage to having these traits is that they can sometimes be perceived as ruthless or cold. This can lead to a lack of trust and respect from employees and colleagues. Additionally, an over-reliance on these traits can lead to a lack of flexibility and the inability to adapt to changes in the business environment.
I have personally seen the effective use of these traits in their own experiences. For example, a former manager who possessed strong strategic thinking skills was able to lead the company through a difficult merger by making well thought-out decisions that ultimately led to the success of the merger. A manager who possessed strong decision-making skills was able to quickly pivot the company’s business model during the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed the company to continue to be successful. Finally, a manager with strong communication skills was able to lead their team through a difficult project by keeping everyone informed and on the
To market the traits, I would include specific examples of how I have demonstrated these skills in past professional experiences. For example, on a resume, one could include bullet points such as:
- “Demonstrated strategic thinking skills by leading the development and implementation of a new business plan that increased company revenue by 15%.”
- “Demonstrated strong decision-making abilities by successfully navigating a difficult merger, resulting in increased efficiency and productivity within the company.”
- “Demonstrated effective communication skills by leading weekly team meetings, resulting in a significant increase in team morale and performance.”
In terms of relating to the character, I share some similar personality traits or management styles with Samantha, such as ambition and determination. However, it’s important to note that everyone is unique and may not share all traits or management styles with the character. In terms of being managed by Samantha, I would definitely look forward to working with Samatha. We all aspire to be effective leaders and as such, working with a revolutionary leader would go a long way in honing my personal leadership traits.
In conclusion, the fictional character of Samantha Smith is a successful CEO of a technology company who possesses important management traits such as strategic thinking, decision-making, and effective communication. These traits were developed through a combination of education, experience, and mentorship. To develop these skills and traits in one’s own life, it’s important to set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. However, it’s also important to be aware of the potential downsides of having these traits, such as being perceived as ruthless or cold, and to strive for balance and flexibility in one’s management style. Through understanding Samantha’s character and management traits, readers can gain insight into how they can improve their own management skills and achieve success in their professional careers.
