Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

A six to eight-page paper that presents a discussion of a controversial topic in mental health treatment or working with individuals with a mental health diagnosis in primary care practice. Topic: giving prophylactic naloxone prescriptions to patients who use opiod medication for pain management in order to prevent overdose. Discuss: general introduction of topic, medication, prevalence of population on opioids, rates of overdose, risk factors for overdose (age, chronic condition, comorbidities) what current research recommends regarding nalaxone prophylactic tx, rates of success, current guidelines when prescribing opioids, how we would educate patients to use the nalaxone, and if family members should be involved in the education process (educated on administration as well as s/s of overdose). Any other pertinent information found through research.
