GLOBAL BUSINESS ETIQUETTE CROSS CULTURE Academic Essay

I got these comments back from my professor

Hi Maryam,

Thank you. I had a great time. I have reviewed the proposal again and I think that the best way to clarify this into something which is going to be specific enough for a dissertation is to focus just on cross cultural communication. The other issues here of global etiquette and cross cultural etiquette and the application of Hofstede is all very vague and there is no real sense of what you are planning to do here- for example, are you planning to use the population of shell to test the validity of Hofstede categories? There is also little in here to suggest any of the numerous criticisms of his work.

The methods are also a little confusing. What is the sample is this 30 or 100? Is this the population? What secondary data (specifically) are you going to use and why. I agree that correlations are useful in research but only if you can account for the intervening variables, i.e. if you judge organisational success by proifitability, to what extent is that wholly attributable to cross-cultural etiquette, and to what extend are profits impacted by changes in the barrel price of oil, or stock market changes etc?

It would be good I think to focus on communications, assess the effectiveness of these, and avoid trying to prove a relationship between these and organisational success. What do you think?
