In my opinion what phrase one means is that laws are made to show good people the good and moral way of doing things, in the hope that we don’t have to use punishments because people are doing good things. Its other use is to control bad people, who do not feel any regrets about doing bad or unlawful things. It means the “bad people” are so corrupted that laws will have little to no effect on their desire to commit crimes. Also, there are laws that don’t have anything to do with moral good or bad. Like traffic laws. The law says everyone should drive on the right side that does not mean that there is a moral judgment in which side of the road you drive on it’s just to standardize driving practices because it is more convenient and safe if everyone drives on the same side.

        There are laws on the books about murder and assault, yet these criminals commit murder and assault anyway.

           For the second quotation, I would argue that humans, beyond their tendencies and flaws, have choices to make and consequences to assume. Most individuals chose to persevere without acknowledging the repercussions of their actions on those that surround them. Continuing a path, not looking to either side of the road, where success is needed with a sense of urgency, man and woman become blinded by the idea of glory and dismiss the true pleasures of life. Obviously, those that disregard the use of a moral compass achieve these goals with much ease and rapidness, for there were no true casualties when compared to the eminence of their success. Unfortunately, the greatness felt by these beings comes short to the one felt by those who look to their sides on their way up. Surely, it is evident that the miles to go before the finish line is way closer for those who “pursue their interest at the expense of other people” yet that is merely a shortcut for the true battles in life. Those who fall under the ignorant not only cherish their won battles but thrive in the occurrence of new ones, built relationships along their journey and ultimately enjoy more of the pleasures of life.

        Often enough those who seek their dreams through righteous ways are called ignorant by those who built their empires with shortcuts, briberies, and deceit. Clearly, one might think someone as ignorant if we evaluate only the time period for his or her achievements, yet life is not only measured in achievements but as mementos, milestones, memories. The ignorant not only seeks to achieve its goals but is careful to foresee the wellbeing of others and establish relationships that will later on be advantageous whether from a personal perspective or from a business perspective. More time and effort, is necessarily when undertaking this kind of road yet it is almost impossible to say it is for someone ignorant but more someone who understand that the essence of success lays in the building of bonds. Furthermore, those who unlike the ignorant achieve success with a tremendous speed only experience an ephemeral satisfaction and then continue to search for the next big thing, continuously become unsatisfied and bitter. How often do we hear of millionaires who commit suicides? Bored from their eternal in conformity rooted in their selfish feelings of glory. As terrible as it may sound, that hunger that fails to feel compassion for others not only kills but tears apart the person’s being leaving it unable to truly cherish that desired feeling of accomplishment.
