Identify an topic of Human trafficking and make a strong claim about it. Incorporate a minimum of two outside sources, which must be properly referenced and cited. You will also need to use proper MLA citation style for in-text citations and a Works Cited page.
Sources: You must incorporate sources from a library database(must use Penn State University Library database), as well as one other library database source. You may use more sources as long as you have carefully evaluated them for credibility, relevance, and timeliness.
Audience: As with all of your arguments, your purpose must be clear and your audience must be able to both follow your argument and see the point of it. Be sure to avoid logical fallacies and to construct an essay that makes clear points backed by solid evidence. Remember to fully consider the opposition.
Argument Techniques:
Remember that a claim must be a point that can be argued; it cannot be merely a statement of fact. Take your claim and support it with evidence the essays, your sources, your experience, etc. Also, remember the importance of observing everything, not just what we want to see (or hear or know). We form immediate opinions based off of these initial observations. If we allow ourselves to remain open to new information, we may gradually add to these initial impressions and sometimes even to change them. Understanding that will help you to understand the importance of giving a full picture when writing an argument and of trying to convince an audience to “view” something from the same point of view that you do. It requires you to consider counter arguments, how to refute them, and even maybe concessions you might make to show your audience that you are reasonable.
Each paragraph should help to support your main claim/thesis. The elements a paragraph should have include: T – Topic sentence clearly stating the main point of the paragraph; E – Evidence that supports that minor claim (examples, facts, stories, etc.); A – Analyze how this evidence helps to support the minor claim; R – Refer or relate this claim to your main claim/thesis.
