conduct a search for information dealing with “lead in drinking water.” You are to conduct searches of 1) ODU Perry Library holdings, 2) holdings accessible through
one of the databases accessible through the Perry Library (pick just one you believe is a better source for this type of information — and make sure to state which one it was), and 3) sources of
information found via an internet search. For the internet search, you must identify which search engine you used. You should include a brief description of how you conducted each search.
From these three searches:
You are to report on the total number of sources (i.e. “hits”) each search captures.
You are to examine the first 10 items retrieved under each search and classify them by their type of resource (e.g. 4 journal articles, 2 books, 1 government document, 1 newspaper, 1 magazine, 1
web site content).
Examine the first ten items and comment on whether the searches seem to bring different types of content. (e.g. if the internet search brought back five video items in the first ten and the library
and WorldCat searches had no video items in the top 10, you would conclude that an internet search favors videos over the other two search vehicles.)
Examine the order that your items were presented and explain why, based on your examination of the returned items, they are (or appear to be) in that particular order. (Is it random?)
