Write a brief commentary of the experiential meanings and the interpersonal meanings of the text above.

1. For the experiential meanings, you should look at:

1. a) The patterns of process types: which ones are present, which is the dominant choice, does this change at certain parts of the text and why. How do these choices relate to the text’s context/purpose.

1. b) The participant roles: who/what carries out the roles and how do these choices relate to the context/purpose.

1. c) The Circumstances: types and how they relate to context/purpose.

2. For the interpersonal meanings the questions you need to consider are: What is going on here in terms of interpersonal meanings? What is the nature of the relationship between the two characters, and how would you know this even if we had not given you some clues by way of contextual background? Your commentary should cover anything you judge to be interpersonally relevant to the text. In particular, you should discuss tense, modality, polarity, ellipsis (a common feature of conversation), and of course, mood choice and speech function. Remember that mood choice relates to the actual grammar as based on the Subject/Finite relationship shown in the clause, and the speech function relates to the social purpose or intent that lies behind the grammar.
