Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

In Section 6.5, Des Jardins discusses the idea that managerial authority derives from the ‘consent of the governed’- that is of employees. He writes:

Both business and government are major social institutions in which select people have the power to coerce other to do as they say. This coercive power derives from the ability of the institution to grant or deny very important goods. Institutional roles decide who has and who lacks power. In either case, social justice demands that this coercive power be justified. In societies in which individuals are respected as autonomous and free decision makers, justification of authority is derived from the consent of the governed.

Explain some of the arguments that Des Jardins advances for and against the claim that the employees of a company should ‘have rights to co-determine any policy that has a significant impact on their work-lives’. which arguments are the strongest? Explain your answer. MUST BE 10 MINS LONG
