Need a response to each post Academic Essay

HMGT 320 Week #6 Response. Need a response to each post (Discussion). There are 4 post total. I have listed my original post which my teach(JermeyBozack) had a question about. Please respond to his question and then next three postings are peer responses. These post are very lengthy, I apologize. You may put your response on a different sheet of paper but please ensure you put the “name” of the person’s discussions you are responding to. Just give one general overall response, not a response to each article and please provide one contributing factor to the discussion. A response should be about 5-10 sentences. Don’t over do it. No Title page!!!!!

Ultrasound Machine
An ultrasound machine is a type of diagnostic equipment that consists of a transducer, transmitter pulse generator, compensating amplifiers, a control unit for focusing, digital processors and display systems. It helps the physician to assess, diagnose and treat medical conditions. It does not have equal risks as other types of imaging systems because it is based on non-ionizing radiation. Health care providers consider ultrasound imaging safe. However, its energy has the potential to emit biological effects on the body. Tissues can get heat moderately or produce small amounts of gas in body fluids or tissues. The price of an ultrasound machine depends largely on the level of technology. A simple and cheap ultrasound machine can only do a simple scan to see a foetus while the advanced ultrasound technology whose cost is higher provides immediate assistance where one can witness the dynamic revolution of a foetus. Ultrasound is beneficial in many ways; it helps healthcare providers to be able to visualize ocular structures, view the heart and assess bone fragility of patients. However, the waves and energy that it produces can have the long-term effect on patients.

I was able to follow up on the implementation of electronic health records in one of our neighboring facilities. The whole process started the assessment. At this stage, providers assessed if the practice is ready to make the change from paper records to electronic health records. After concluding that it is ready, the installation of the EHR system followed. After that, the activities that followed were training and pilot testing. The EHR implementation the plan and schedule were then developed and executed. The execution of the plans included chart abstraction plan and other necessary data migration plans in collaboration with the dealer, the implementation of the system’s training plan which included practicing specific goals and needs, and privacy and security risk management program.

Deidra,
part 1….can you elaborate moe on ultrasound. For a basic machine , what is the cost, what is reimbursement for routine fetal echo. Likewise, same two questions for the more elaborate 3-D machine. Is reimbursement keeping pace with technology.
Part 2…..for this facility
– do you know if they met the meaningful use standards? Which ones? Did they prove through meaningful use that they proved they improved patient care and qualified for the MU incentive money?

Hello class,
Part 1
The Benchtop Clinical Chemistry Analyzer is a machines that run tests to determine the presence or absence of a specified substance in a given sample. In healthcare, this can mean that a small sample of skin can be tested for different types of bacteria/sickness that could be potentially harmful to their well-being. Giving the patient and outcome that is knowledgeable about the substance that could be making them sick. These clinical chemistry analyzers are used in low to medium volume laboratories to run medical tests, do quality control testing on household chemicals, such as detergent, analyze food and beverages, and run environmental tests on water. With this knowledge, not only does the medical world benefit but also homeowners would be made aware of the safe chemicals to use within homes. A bench top clinical chemistry analyzer is capable of running a variety of general tests or specialized to just run one or two analyses. There are several different kinds of analysis available in a bench top clinical chemistry analyzer, including random access analysis, batch analysis, and photometric analysis. Important things to look for in a bench top clinical chemistry analyzer include sample size requirement, available tests and reagents, and the analysis speed. The cost of the equipment depends on several factors, like if the machine is new or used and it depends on the brand name of the machine. I found some that cost 1,500 and then some that cost 5,000. Based on the research I’ve done on this analyzer, I would say yes, this technology is beneficial to patients and the health care system with all factors considered.

The EHR Incentive Program provides incentive payments for certain healthcare providers to use EHR technology in ways that can positively impact patient care. An electronic health record (EHR)—sometimes called an electronic medical record (EMR)—allows healthcare providers to record patient information electronically instead of using paper records. Providers have to meet specific requirements in order to receive incentive payments. The amount of your incentive payment depends on when you begin participating in the program. The incentive payment is 75% of your Medicare allowed charges up to a maximum annual cap. To get started, one must make sure he or she is eligible for the incentive. Incentive payments for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program are made to individual providers, not to practices or medical groups. The next step is to get registered for the program, and then meeting the requirements. You must be applicable for the incentives. Once all the steps are covered, then the EHR incentive is implemented.

Research a clinical health/patient care technology/ diagnostic equipment (do not include electronic health record system). discuss the impact of the technology. The advances in pharmacy automation technology has a great impact on patient healthcare. Automated systems have been implemented in many pharmacy practice settings to improve drug distribution, control inventory, reduce labor, and decrease medication errors.[Time savings resulting from automation may allow pharmacists to participate more fully in direct patient care.
Part 2
From the literature, or from personal experience, describe an example of how a health care organization implemented EHR incentives, as outlined in the CMS article reading this week. It is a very strict process on getting EHR incentives. EHR incentive payments are provided to eligible professionals (EPs) and eligible hospitals as they adopt, implement, upgrade, or demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. Qualified Medicare eligible professionals that can receive payments are doctors of medicine or osteopathy, doctors of dental surgery or dental medicine, doctors of podiatric medicine, optometry doctors and chiropractors. Qualified Medicaid eligible professionals that can receive payments are physicians, nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives, dentists and physician assistants.

Blood pressure Ereaders are a self-measured, blood pressure reader positioned in social points such as pharmacies and groceries stores that can be accessed by people who want to check their blood pressure. The digital blood pressure ereader machine will capture one’s blood pressure, interpret the reading, and transmit the reading to health centers through cloud information services. Patients anonymously take readings, however, they will provide a phone number which will only be used to follow-up readings deemed at risk. These patients check their readings as many times as they wish within the period of the assessment. This is an opportunity for those unaware they have high blood pressure to know and seek treatment. It is cost-effective in high blood pressure management by capturing asymptomatic and pre-event at-risk users. It is population-based, thus labor saving for health providers by screening only those at risk and provides public health epidemiological surveillance of patterns in populations. As this is a fairly new technology there are yet to be any reimbursement for services by the health plans. Howeveri believe this equipment will be beneficial to both the patient and physician as it allows quicker communication. The patient is able to get information and seek a doctor if deemed necessary.

Health care facilities have implemented EHR incentives through the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act. In order to receive incentives stages were implemented which included facilities being able to capture data and share electronic health information in a structured format(stage 1). Stage two included advanced clinical processes which was the quality improvement at the point of care and electronic exchange of information. Finally, stage 3 which includes “improvements in quality, safety and efficiency in clinical decision support and patient self-management tools.”
