Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

Contextualise an artwork (or a series of artworks) made from 1970 onwards in relation to a concept or group of ideas. Then discuss how this work relates to the ideas presented in two critical texts from the assigned reading list.

You will select visual works appropriate to analyzing and discussing. The essay needs to reflect the ideas and issues raised by your reading/research. You will need to select written research material around your starting point(s) to develop your understanding of the issues, and thereby equip yourself with the necessary arguments, counter-arguments, and contextual/critical information to develop your own argument/exploration in your essay.

A suggested approach is to use the ideas to link the artwork and text, or to use the artwork to link the ideas and texts. But what we are looking for is the way you identify the relationships between the different ways of seeing and thinking. It is incredibly important that you UNDERSTAND the texts you are using, this will come from the lectures, or from further reading or watching documentaries or seminars that help expand on the ideas
