Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

1. Students should pick one work of art from their textbook and locate a scholarly
(academic) journal article that focuses on that work of art.
2. Analyze the article using the same 4 step technique that you used to analyze a work of
art in the chapter on criticism.
3. Annotations for this assignment should be:
a. descriptive (summarizing the authors’ qualifications, research methods, and
arguments),
b. analytic (examining the author’s methods and arguments),
c. interpretive (explaining the findings of the author), and
d. evaluative (judging the quality of scholarship, rationale of the author and
relevance of the source to the topic or field). Your findings can be positive,
negative, or mixed.
4. Write an annotation for your source. See the example provided by your professor as a
model.
5. Include an illustration for any work of art mentioned in your annotation.
6. Follow Chicago-Turabian formatting guidelines.
