Religion and Creationism Versus Science and Evolution
Based on the video documentaries and the additional source materials listed in Module 2, as well as any other source materials that you might find substantively useful in addressing the posted guide questions for completing this assignment, does the DNA data regarding human evolution and human migrations conflict with the “theory of creationism”? Explain. Also, critique the believability or non-believability of the evidence that supports or refutes creationism and the evidence that supports or refutes human evolution. Explain your position or perspective(s) and avoid simply “declaring truth ” or citing from a given holy book.
Solution
Religion and Creationism Versus Science and Evolution
The theory of creationism is the belief that the universe and living organisms originate from specific acts of divine creation. Creationism relies on faith with and cannot be scientifically proved. Although it is true that creationism cannot be disproved, basing your argument solely on the idea that creationism cannot be disproved is ludicrous. On the other hand, there is an abundance of evidence favoring evolution.
Many people view creationism and evolution as black and white or polar opposites. However, I have come to acknowledgean idea presented in which both creationism and evolution can coexist. I am not supporting this idea but rather simply stating it as it pertains to the topic of “does the DNA data regarding human evolution and human migrations conflict with the ‘theory of creationism’”? The idea is as follows: creationists believe in a greater being that created the universe and it is entirely possible that God created humans through evolution. Now this theory might go soundly for a creationist as there is irrefutable evidence of evolution and it will support evolution as well as the claim of intelligent design, which is an inherent argument in creationism.
This idea, however; is one sided as evolutionist will likely disregard it as fallacy. Evolution is a theory based dependent on evidence and having an idea based off of pure faith will not likely sit well with evolutionists. In this sense, creationist can also believe in evolution without conflict, however; evolutionists might not share the same ideology.
Creationism lack the evidence needed for me to support it and thus I believe in evolutionism. There is no evidence in support of creationism and creationists only argument is that humans are too intelligent and perfect for there not to be a God. On the other hand there are hundreds of years of research in favor of evolution. There are hundreds of fossils and DNA prints dating hundreds of thousands of years in support of evolution. Creationists might argue that there are no transitional fossils to support the theory of evolution, however; the evolutionary process is so slow and unnoticeable that there is no point in which one animal suddenly transformed into another. An example in support of evolution would be dog breeding. Humans bred wolves and created numerous different types of dogs.
Evolution is the process in which animals have developed. In the case of canines, a dog such as golden retriever or poodle has descended from a wolf. This is proof enough of evolution as it has occurred, not naturally but nonetheless occurred, during the time span of mankind. The whole basis of creationism is faith, to support intelligent design would be to believe, and with evidence there would be no need for belief. I do not support creationism because it is contingent on belief rather than evolution which uses evidence to support it.
