You will have 4 essay questions and they are based on chapters 16-23 in the textbook( The American Promise)

1. How and why were cities transformed in America in the late nineteenth century? How did cities and the people living in them transform America?
2. How and why did the United States participate in World War I? What was the legacy of American involvement and of Woodrow Wilson’s diplomacy?
3. How and why was America transformed during the 1920’s? How did the development of that era reflect a modern America? Use four specific examples to substantiate your answer.
4. Explain the major causes of the Great Depression. How did people cope with the economic crisis? How did the Great Depression transform America?
Only the exact specified questions listed will be accepted for the midterm essay. Each essay answer must be more than 300 words each. Direct quotes do not count toward the required word count. All answers should be submitted together in a single word processing document. Before each answer, you must list the questions they are addressing. You may use your textbook , and other outside sources(books, websites, etc), but in this case all information must be cited and must be listed in a bibliography (or works cited) at the end of the essay. Be sure to cite any direct quotes and list any and all outside sources after your answers. Run your essay through online plagiarism checking software. If plagiarism is found, your essay will not be accepted.
