The article for this section can come from either History Study Center or JStor. (There is a JStor tutorial on Blackboard)
The article you choose must be at least five pages in length and cannot be a book review.
Once you have chosen a suitable article read it and write a response based on the following questions – you are not limited to these ideas, but need to include them.
What is the subject of the article? What is the thesis or the main idea of the article? How does the article connect your story to the larger story of American history during the relevant time period? (Think about other topic, trends, events that are covered in class and your textbook) What did the article contribute to knowledge/understanding of the topic? Please note that you must choose an article, not a book review. Most journal articles will be between 20 and 45 pages. To receive points for this section you must attach a copy of the article you analyzed.
Basic Paper Requirements
Forms and Guidelines: All material handed in should have 1 inch margins, be double spaced and use a 12 point standard font. Each individual assignment should have a cover page with your name, the course number, what time your class meets, and be stapled in the upper left hand corner. The website analysis, journal article analysis, and document analysis should each be a minimum of two full pages of text; the cumulative essay should be at least four full pages of text. All of the assignments should have works cited page. Please remember that these are the minimum requirements to receive a passing grade – you may need to do more to do well. Failure to follow the guidelines may result in a grade of zero.
In each of the assignments you will be graded on how well you fulfill the requirements listed – or put another way – do you thoughtfully answer the questions posed. Please be aware that this is a college class and you are expected to write at a college level. Failure to use appropriate language or correct spelling and grammar will result in a lower grade.
All citations and bibliographical information should be done in either MLA or Chicago Manual of Style format. A good source for help with MLA is:

Please complete the assignment and attach it as a pdf file or a word document through the assignment box. If you do that I can use the editing features and put comments within the text and margins of your assignment. If you copy and paste it into the assignment box I cannot use that feature for grading. And, please do not copy and paste your paper into the comments box! It does not format properly and may change the way your response reads. I hope that makes sense, if not let me know.
