The purpose of this paper is to examine whether or not the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act had any significant effect on improving consumer protection and regulating investment banking practice among its listed objectives. Was the act an appropriate or over the top response to the ’07-08 financial crisis? Did it have a positive, negative, or negligible effect on consumer protection regulation? Did it have a positive, negative, or negligible effect on regulation surrounding loans provided by investment banks/firms? The paper should explore these questions and carefully examine whether or not there is a concrete answer to be had for each.
