Theory Application Paper

For this assignment, you are to select one of the listed films and discuss and analyze the film from two theories presented in the Robbins (Contemporary Human Behavior Theory: A Critical Perspective for Social Work (3rd Edition) text (i.e., symbolic interaction, transpersonal theory, feminist theory). Do not summarize the film in a descriptive or non-critical manner. Instead you must critically apply the content from the Robbins text to your selected film. This may entail an analysis of one or more characters, their relationships, and an understanding of the interaction between person and the social environment. You must reflect upon how the theories you’veselected raise similar and/or different considerations in your analysis. Be sure to include why these similarities and differences emerge, and what this raises in terms of the value and importance of critically understanding theories of human behavior. The paper will demonstrate your understanding of the selected theories. The paper should be 8-10 pages (not to exceed 10), double-spaced including references to external (not course assigned) and assigned readings. Your paper will be assessed according to the Theory Application rubric. You may choose to work independently on this paper, or with one to two other classmates. If you work with other classmates, you will submit one paper and each person will receive the same grade. The films selected for this assignment are:

You can find descriptions of these films at IMDb.com. None of these films are new releases, and therefore you should be able to access them through your local library, NetFlix, iTunes, or other movie rental options.
