You will write a 6-¬8 page argumentative paper that makes an argumentative claim about the issue you chose in your original proposal. You should explore existing arguments/sources/positions/views on the issue, explaining what elements do or do not work in those arguments (i.e. why does this issue still need to be addressed), then add onto/make your new claim and support it with reasoning and research (i.e. combining or explaining elements from the research and adding your own arguments).

You should be using the “middle style” of voice described in the text, and presenting your argument clearly and academically. The language should be simple though and understandable to common people.

You must use a MINIMUM of 9 sources (you can use more if you choose to). Of these sources, 5 must be scholarly sources (the remaining can be scholarly or not; non-¬‐scholarly sources include websites, blogs, newspapers, magazines, interviews, or, if you check with me first, YouTube videos, commercials, advertisements, or primary source materials).

You must include ALL formal citations (for both direct quotes and paraphrased material). You should include a work cited page as a separate sheet (on a new page within the same document, does not count for page length). This item will count toward the grade of this assignment.

AUDIENCE: Assume your audience is made up of educated individuals who do not necessarily have a strong background in your specific topic. You do not need to explain very basic concepts, but you will need to have some introductory/exploratory material for the specific topic you are addressing to highlight why this issue needs to be addressed and provide a basic understanding of the issue.
