Purpose of EMR’s

The purpose of adopting an EMR system is to correlate doctors and other providers, to make accessing, importing, and sharing information seamless. Features of the systems include but are not limited to; drug interaction warnings, medical history, and guideline-based interventions. The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics conducted a survey of 10,301 physicians that shows “a 46.4% jump between 2009 and 2010 in the number of physicians who reported having fully functional systems” (Brockenbrough, G. (2011). Randale C. Sechrest, MD states “Once a critical mass of users is actually communicating with other interoperable EMRs, the terrain will change dramatically” (Brockenbrough, G. (2011).
