Below are uploaded documents for the Art History Virtual Exhibit Instructions as well as an short example of a past students Virtual Exhibit paper. The topic I chose was Art and Spirituality:Greek Mythology
The sub themes can be of Greek Monsters, Greek Gods & Goddesses, Greek mythical creatures, and Greek heroes. For example medusa is a greek monster, hercules is a greek hero, and Zeus is a Greek God.
The entire instructions are attached as a file, but I will quickly give an overview of what is to be done….
Imagine you are the special guest curator for the newest gallery in town. You will research, identify, and provide label information (wall text) for artwork to be included in the next exhibition. Your assignment is to create an exhibit of at least five (5) works of art and write an essay or slide text(1200 words in length) about how the artworks are thematically related.•
Once you have selected a specific theme, research and identify at least five (5) works of art for your exhibit.
• Your exhibit must include artwork by at least three (3) different artists and work created in two (2) different media. (Paintings and Sculptures might be the easiest medias to use)
• Use only instructor recommended websites, your textbook, and/or books/periodicals found in the library to find and research artworks. Do not use a Google image search to find artworks for your theme. Always use scholarly sources. Never use Wikipedia.
• No more than one (1) artwork can come from your textbook. The five (5) artworks do not have to be artworks that you have seen in person. For example, if you want to include the Mona Lisa in an exhibit about portraits, the Louvre will graciously lend you a digital copy of this priceless masterpiece.
Label artworks as follows:
o Artist
o Title of artwork (italicized)
o Date of artwork
o Medium
• You will write an essay or slide text that explains how the five (5) artworks are thematically related.
• You must investigate how the artworks are thematically related and why they are historically/culturally significant.
• Focus your discussion on the connection of your theme to the underlying meaning (content) of the artworks and the historical/cultural context in which it was created. This will require research.
• You are not writing a biography of the artists. A small amount of biographical information may be appropriate, but do not simply paraphrase what you read. You should discuss why the biographical information is relevant to your theme and selected artworks. Write in the objective 3rd person
There is an example paper attached as well. Naturally the art textbook we have as a class can’t be a source being I can’t upload it, Wikipedia can’t be a source
