MSc Light & Lighting 2015 – 2016
Coursework BENVGLG3: Essay
Mark Rea, in his 2012 Trotter Paterson lecture, asked “Whatever happened to visual performance?”1. He notes in the paper that Christopher (‘Kit’) Cuttle has recently argued that visual performance is simply no longer important for architectural applications.
Rea further states:
“. . . that visual performance should not be the basis for recommending light levels in most commercial applications. Other criteria like apparent brightness and circadian regulation should begin to attract more formal consideration (p100).”
You are asked to prepare an essay, of 3000 words, drawing on original published research in apparent brightness and circadian regulation. This will require you to make a judicious selection of relevant material to define criteria appropriate to these concepts. Your essay should conclude with an assessment of how such criteria might be incorporated in codes and good practice documents for interior lighting.
The essay should be less than 3000 words in pdf format; title page to include Module number, title of work and name of student; word count on the tile page to be uploaded to moodle by 23:55 on the hand in date. The submission will be run through Turnitin to check for plagiarism.
