HY 102, Western Civilization II

Event Title: Screening of Documentary Film “Denial” and Commentary afterward.

More Information: Denial , a film about the Deborah Lipstadt and David Irving Trial in Great Britain in 2000. The film was released late last year, and is based on
Lipstadt’s book, History on Trial: May Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier, published in 2006. The film will be presented by Dr. David Meola (History). After the
film, Dr. Meola will be joined by Dr. Don Berry, Co-Director of the Gulf Coast Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education for a discussion about the film and
Holocaust denial. The film is 110 minutes. Expect 20 minutes or so discussion afterwards.

The student must write a three-paragraph typed essay.

1. In the first paragraph the student must describe the event (in the student’s own words) and in such a way that the reader can visualize what the student
experienced. What was the event? Where and when was it held? What happened in the event?

2.In the second paragraph, the student must quote and cite the textbook in linking the special event to Western Civilization. How does the event illustrate, reflect,

cite the textbook).

3.In the third paragraph, conclude your essay with a subjective opinion about the event. Was it worth your time to attend this event? Did you like the event? Did it
bore you? Did it repulse you? What was the audience response? Did you respond the same way as the audience to the event? Finally, did your knowledge of Western
civilization enhance your enjoyment or understanding of the event?

will be proof that you were there) during the reception after the lecture.
