o You will receive a failing grade for not satisfying the length requirement.
• Font: Times New Roman [size 11 or 12] • Required sources: At least five credible sources. I well upload the five sources that you need to use in the essay.
o Wikipedia is not an appropriate source.
• MLA: Header, margins, page numbers, spacing, sources, etc. should be documented according to MLA guidelines. (8th addition of MLA)
o Plagiarized (intentional or not) papers will receive a failing grade. Take the time to put quotes around borrowed language and to cite the source.
o Your paper must include in-text/parenthetical citations AND a Works Cited page.
Structure/Format/Content
• Give your essay an intriguing title and introduction.
• Your thesis must respond to the prompt by asserting something about the issue and its causes.
• Provide topic sentences and examples that reinforce your thesis. Avoid broad generalizations and vague examples.
• Avoid trite or shallow causes. Think deeply about the issue and come up with insightful causes.
• Use third person. Avoid 1st person voice (“I”) and 2nd person (“You”).
• Always proofread, revise, and check for MLA errors. You will lose points if you do not follow the proper format for header, page numbers, spacing, etc.
This is the essay proposal I submitted into my teacher for this essay: Why is social security expected to disappear?
“The ongoing retirement of the baby boom generation is expected to raise the cost of the U.S Social Security program (SSP) because of the increased number of recipients. The high number of retirees and income confines threaten the sustainability of the SSP because the presently planned devoted tax revenue might be inadequate to finance the retirement benefits adequately. Without any adjustments on the law, it is anticipated that the trust fund will be drained in 2037, according to a recent report in the PBS News. The SSP issue is interesting because it affects future retirees’ ability to receive retirement income. The issue is an appropriate topic for causal analysis as it shows the link between aspects such as population demographics and the economy. The basic tenet of a causal analysis is it establishes the basic reasons that answer the ‘whys’ in a phenomenon/situation. The topic satisfies the principle as it establishes the causes of the projected decline of the SSP that include declining tax revenue, current law, and an aging U.S population.”
