better coach or leader. Consider choosing someone you do not know very well so that you have a
greater potential for learning. Talk with this person about what and who has been the biggest
influence on their success. The questions are up to you, and they may include finding out about their
coaching or leadership philosophy (e.g., foundational beliefs, people/situations that have shaped their
philosophy), what they believe has contributed the most to their strength as a coach or leader., keys
to them being consistently at or near their best, strategies they use to get team members prepared to
perform their best, and how they have changed over the years to stay successful. Prepare for the
interview by thinking through the questions you will ask to find out what is important to you. Write
your paper (you decide the length) to include why you chose this coach, the questions you asked and
the responses, a comprehensive summary of the potential value to you as a coach and leader, and
what it was like to talk with them. Include the questions and their responses to them. Also include the
name and contact information for the coach (phone number or e-mail address). Worth 20% of your
Final Course Grade.
GRADING: Approximately 15% of the grade is earned for the written reasoning of why you
chose this particular coach and what you believed you would gain by interviewing him or
her. About 15% is earned for depth of explaining how you prepared for the interview.
Approximately 25% of the grade is earned for the questions you ask initially and as followup
to the initial answers you receive. Approximately 45% of the grade is earned for
including the questions and responses as well as your detailed written summary of the
person and specifically what this interview supported about and added to your
understanding of successful coaching and leadership.
