#1 Cognitive Biases
cognitive biases are ways of thinking that we all exhibit at one time or another. Cognitive biases can lead to distorted, inexact, and incomplete thinking processes that in turn can lead to poor decisions. Five cognitive biases that you read about in the background material were:
1. Confirmation bias
2. Self-serving bias
3. Belief bias
4. Framing
5. Causality
Do some research of your own. Choose two of the five biases listed above and define them. Then give brief examples of when you or a co-worker have exhibited this bias at work. Provide a reference of your research.
#2 McClelland’s Need Theory
McClelland’s Need Theory talked about three main needs: need for achievement, need for power, and need for affiliation that motivated employees’ behavior. Based on what you have learned about McClelland’s Need Theory, which need (or needs) is the most important for you at this time in your career. Once you’ve answered, do a word search on “McClelland’s need theory test” and find an online survey that measures your needs. Report what you found. Were the results surprising, or what you initially suspected? Also, provide the link to the test you found in case any of your classmates want to use it.
3. Groups and Teams
First, explain whether or not you think you are a team player or someone who works better alone. After your own self-rating, go online and do a search on terms such as “team player quiz” or “team player questionnaire.” Report your results and compare with your initial self-ratings. Also, provide the link to the test you found
4. Rate your Organizational Culture
In this discussion, you have the opportunity to rate an organization along cultural dimensions, such as detail-oriented, team-oriented, innovative, aggressive, outcome-oriented, and people-oriented. The quiz that you take (described below) may provide you with other dimensions as well.
Conduct a word search in Google or another search engine on “Quiz: What Is Your Corporate Culture” to find an organizational culture quiz. Take the quiz and in this paragraph post provide a summary of your reactions to your quiz results. Also respond to the following questions
Are the cultural dimensions you took from the quiz more useful than the standard textbook dimensions of organizational culture Defend your response. Refer to one or more authors (by name) in your discussion.
