You are required to conduct an empirical analysis of the composition of the portfolio of products and services provided by two Islamic Banks (IBs) allocated to you. Working as a team of two members you will be asked to complete an excel sheet summarising key information about the banks after accessing their publicly available financial performance reports which will then be utilised in your individual research report besides other sources of information about the banks. Your research and analysis will be guided by the following key questions:

1. To what extent are the underlying principles of IBF such as Profit and Loss Share (PLS) and falah (welfare) reflected in the banks’ portfolios?
2. To what extent are the two banks financially healthy as indicated by Z score analysis?
3. What perspectives of Balanced Scorecard can be identified in the performance of IBs?

The research essay/report needs to be written in the form of an academic paper. Word count for the paper is 2500 with 10% +/- allowance. You will add a reflection note of about 300 words as an appendix to the research report.
