A major component of this class is a term research paper. It represents a substantial effort on your part to research and write an in-depth paper. The topic of research will be based upon the subject of Terrorism in Israel. It is expected that the research paper will meet the high standards. All papers are to be typed in a double-space format and in APA format. Papers with more than 15% quotes will receive a failing grade. The Research paper is to be no less than 4000 words.

The research paper must be typed in a double-spaced format with the correct APA citations, formatting and references. It is expected that the student will devote a great deal of initiative toward producing a quality scholarly product worthy of the high academic standards established.

Overview

This course provides a comprehensive overview of international and domestic terrorism, arising from either religious or secular roots. It will examine the historical and philosophical underpinnings of terrorism in general, and specifically in Israel. Terrorist organizations in Israel will be studied and a special emphasis will be placed on the Israeli government’s preventive and investigative techniques in dealing with terrorist attacks. In addition, the student will be exposed to the rationale used by terrorist groups in an attempt to justify their attacks on Israel.

1. Discuss the history of terrorist organizations, particularly within or affecting Israel.

1. Identify major international and domestic terrorist organizations; articulate their philosophical orientation; discuss their basic structure and areas of operations.

1. Summarize the tactics terrorists use against Israel

1. Explain the impact of religion on the way terrorists organize and operate.

1. Discuss the concept of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD); identify major types and threats.

1. Discuss the key components of an operational planning process to handle a terrorism incident.

1. Articulate and discuss the components of the comprehensive anti-terrorism strategy practiced in Israel.

1. Discuss Israel’s specific response to terrorism/domestic security.
