You will select a general topic from one of the theory chapters we will cover in class this semester. (Take a look at your syllabus for
the topics to be covered, starting with Ch.5 of the text. The topic must be one we will cover in class; hence, refer to the syllabus).
Using scholarly journals only, you will find 10 sources on your narrowed topic. The sources must detail original research. That is, there
must be a hypothesis or research question, a method, data being collected (from human subjects), and conclusions being drawn. Book
reviews, newspaper articles, editorials, essays etc. are not appropriate. Your goal is to compile 10 articles that advance the
scholarship/theory on your chosen topic.
Once you have compiled your sources, you will create an annotated bibliography in APA format. Each source is to have a full-page
annotation. Aim for two-thirds of a page for the summary, and one-third of the page for the assessment. (Remember, APA format is double-
spaced, one inch margins all around, 12 point font, Times New Roman).
Remember the two-part goal of your annotation: to summarize and assess. Read the articles. Do not simply summarize the abstracts.
Critical assessment comments are to be about the research design, biases, etc.
When you turn in your finished assignment, each annotation should be on its own page; don’t start one half way down the page, for example,
following your previous annotation.
You must also turn in a copy of the first page of each one of your articles as source proof
. Be as specific as possible with what you will study.
No late, emailed, or untyped assignments accepted.
See “do and don’t” page for additional information. Note: You may NOT use summarizer websites. Doing so equals academic dishonesty.
